Our mission is to drive meaningful habit changes through accessible data. By making slight, informed tweaks to your daily cooking, you can achieve massive reductions in your personal footprint—equivalent to saving an entire year of driving or showering.
Who I Am
I am a high school researcher and advocate dedicated to building a sustainable future. Combining my passions for agriculture, culinary arts, food security, and environmental science, I engineered EcoTrace to prove that climate action does not require sacrificing our day-to-day lifestyles. Sustainability should be accessible, transparent, and actionable for everyone.
The EcoStrain Framework
The EcoStrain Calculator exposes the hidden environmental overhead of agricultural production, moving beyond basic monetary costs and nutritional values to evaluate true planetary boundaries.
How We Calculate It
Our backend cross-references every ingredient in your recipe against global, peer-reviewed Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) databases (including Agribalyse and the Poore & Nemecek dataset). We evaluate five core ecological dimensions per ingredient:
- Carbon Footprint: Measured in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent ($\text{kg CO}_2\text{eq}$) to account for total greenhouse gas warming potential.
- Water Footprint: Measured in liters ($\text{L}$) of consumptive freshwater resource depletion.
- Land Use: Measured in square meters ($\text{m}^2$) of land occupied per year, factoring in crop yields and livestock feed requirements.
- Eco-Toxicity: Evaluates chemical runoff, pesticides, and fertilizer impacts on local freshwater systems and biodiversity.
- Resource Depletion: Tracks the consumption of non-renewable resources, such as fossil fuels for machinery and rock phosphate for fertilizers.
